This is going to be a long post and not the type of post I plan to be writing in the future…(Unless of course some of you enjoy this kind of thing and want more posts like this…) But it is necessary that I put these thoughts here as the first post. As a reminder to myself before I begin this journey….So here it goes.
Usually people make resolutions in the beginning of the year…but sometimes you need to slow down and re-evaluate who you are, what you stand for and what is most important to you. Especially when you’re in a transitional period in your life or have gone through some life changing events.
This year was a special year for me, for so many reasons. A lot of life changing events happened; some were great and others not so great. Some highlights included marrying my best friend, life partner and father of my child after being together for over 10 years.
I was able to reconnect with friends and family I haven’t seen for almost 10 years. I am also expecting a new little blessing of joy. My second child should be born early next year.
I was able to finally reconcile with my past and move on from things that have always been holding me back… I learned a lot about people especially those I thought I knew. I made sacrifices. I learned a great deal about myself. I gained a new perspective. My patience was tested.
Next year is going to be another special year, I will turn the big 30 and I will have my second child. I’m looking at this point in my life as a bridge. As I move from my past to my future. I’m going to improve the old and reinvent/welcome the new. This will not happen overnight. There will be trials and errors, but that will only mold me.
Every one of us has things that we want to do or try but for one reason or another something is holding us back. Whether it is circumstances, opportunities or insecurities. Well I’m here to tell you to go ahead and do whatever it is that you want to do. There is never the right time and you can always start somewhere. Don’t wait for things outside your control to give you the green light. You are in control of your life, just do it. If you don’t start now, you will always wonder…what if? Don’t let anyone or anything waste your time. This does not mean you should be paranoid about every little ticking second, but there is always something that you can do, no matter how small it is to better yourself and help you achieve your goals. If anything enjoy every moment instead of spending it worrying and waiting for tomorrow. There is never a perfect time but now.
Terry Rossio’s has an article on his site Wordplayer titled “Never Wait”. It has always been my go to article every once in a while when I need that firm reminder to do what I need to do and be what I need to be. If you don’t know Terry Rossio he is co-producer/screenwriter and brain child of some of the most popular films of our times. Films like Alladin, Godzilla, The Mask Of Zorro, Antz, Road To El Dorado, Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean (all), De Javu, National Treasure and many others.
The article is directed to film makers, writers and all those who aspire to make it in the tough film industry out there in Hollywood. However, the words in this article although “harsh” resonate with all of us and remind us of an important lesson in life. It’s the hard truth that time is ticking away and we should never waste it as once its gone you can never get it back. At this moment more than any other these words speak to me…
This article is truly inspiring and motivating. It is very long but I urge you to read it… it will change your life. If not, it will at least make you question how you spend your time.
Here are just some quotes from the article:
“Successful people don’t wait. They don’t get stalled on one step, one issue, one project. They continuously go about the problem of creating value. They’re not interested in struggling and waiting, they’re focused on doing….
…All successful people take action, they don’t wait for permission they either get permission or give themselves permission.
…People think doing is stressful but waiting is even more…”
As for me this new journey will be about totally stepping out of my comfort zone. For those who know me, they know I am not the kind of person to put myself out there and I am quite a private person. God knows where this journey will take me. I know the road ahead is not going to be easy. But I hope along the way I will meet new people, make friends and open a whole new world for me. I hope that you and I can learn and share a thing or two with each other.
So before I begin, I would like to thank all those who were a source of comfort to me this year when I most needed it (…you know who you are) and for those who for whatever reason thought it was in their right to put me down when I was the most vulnerable…(because of you I’m a better person)
Until next time, remember to NEVER WAIT.
Ms. Dee Kay
