Day 2 Of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Stockholm Spring/Summer 2014

Hi luvs,

Today is Day 2 of  Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ll be focusing on MBFWS S/S 14 for the rest of the week.

Starting off, here is the schedule of the events that will take place today Tuesday August 28th.

The day kicks off at 10:30 - The Swedish School of Textiles will be showing their S/S 14 collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Pavilion, Kungsträdgården.

A Description from the school

A degree show in fashion design is often mistaken for a show of garments and outfits
that should be ready for sale in store and to a certain market segment. However, that
is not the main idea with a degree work. The purpose of a degree work is instead to
present new ideas and possibilities that in turn may be applied and adopted into
commercialized ready to wear garments for different situations or markets; hence the
at times abstract and demonstrative character of the collections shown.
At the Swedish School of Textiles fashion design is understood in its broadest sense,
making room for a vast number of different perspective. And so it must be, since the
challenge for today’s graduating designers is an industry alongside others that has to
change into a more sustainable system and where our relationship to clothing,
accessories and other fashion-related products has to be challenged. Therefore, I put
my hope to the degree students to continue to challenge an industry in the same way
that you have challenged and developed your education.

At 15:00 Caroline Kummelstedt reveals her S/S 14 collection at Bukowskis

In this CAROLINE KUMMELSTEDT Spring Summer 2014 edition collection Milanese
street style fashion meets 1920’s Paris in an edgy, classic and elegant look with playful
femininity as a leading characteristic. Italian everyday life is a key source of inspiration,
represented through the collection’s sophisticated style and uncompromising quality in
material and making. Adding a subtle taste of funkiness to the picture, flowing and fluent
fabrics in sober colors boldishly marries the couture-influenced past of European fashion
with contemporary international design. Self-confident and classy with a slight hint of
quirky feminine sensuosity together forms the eye catching alignment of sensualism and
conscious assertiveness, bringing the collection back to the same original foundation of
style that defines the label.

At 17:00 Busnel will show their S/S 14 collection at Bernz big saloon.

Busnel is inspired mainly by equestrianism, with hunting elements at the core of this collection. But there are also strong masculine attributes – some say it’s a man’s world.Contrast is very important. The silhouette is either convex or concave. Generous voluminous coats or narrow fitted jackets. Soft cashmere to hard leather. Matt knitted wool to glossy satin silk. The combination of pineapple-like structures and quilted checkers. Details such as big leather buttons, golden zippers and golden rope are also significant. The colors are down to earth: off-white, beaver brown, hunting green, powdery pink, dark grey and black, with autumn yellow and Busnel red accents. Busnel has proudly stood for the highest quality since 1920.

At 18:00 Cheap Monday will showcase their S/S 14 collection at Hallwylska Palatset.

For Spring 2014, Cheap Monday plays with the idea of hubris and makes inflatable egos visible through an exaggerated silhouette and narcissistic graphics. The collection is confident with an in-your-face aesthetic and kick-ass attitude, channelling bold artists from the 90s. A decisive street look from that time period emphasizes this new direction. Seasonal key colours are black, white and grey marl, where prints play an important part.

At 19:00 Whyred will present their S/S 14 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Pavilion, Kungsträdgården.

WHYRED is all about contrasts, where the expected meets the unexpected in a nonchalant elegance.
Contrasts where black meets white. Where stiff meets soft. Where leather meets nylon.
We love to play with the conventions and disregard the obvious. As when we use our signature piece The Parka over a suit to confront the sharp dressed with the casual.
