It’s Day 15 of the “What Is Love? Challenge“, where for 29 days I’m sharing bible verses on Love so that we can gain a deeper understanding of the true meaning of Love according to God’s divine plan.
On Day 14 we talked about Why having a strong and consistent Prayer life, as well as why consistently reading the Word Of God (the Bible) is so important…because this is how we receive loving guidance from our Father, this is how we learn our purpose and how to live our lives.
Today we’ll discuss Spiritual Rebirth and the inheritance we receive because we are God’s precious children.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,
In today’s verses we’re reminded, through God’s mercy and the resurrection of Jesus Christ we’ve all been given the most precious gift, of spiritual rebirth. Because of this, anyone who declares and accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour, the Messiah, has access to the gift of Eternal Life and an imperishable inheritance in heaven.
You’ve probably heard people say, “If God loves us so much why does he allow suffering?” I actually saw someone question this as I was scrolling down instagram just the other day….and you’ve probably heard the saying “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
People who question this, usually argue that this argument proves that God doesn’t exist!!! because a loving, an all powerful, God/Creator would not just stand back and allow good people to suffer or bad people to prevail…and these people often say that the power is in our hands…that instead of relying on a “non-existent God” we need to save ourselves!!!
The problem with this faulty logic though, is that if you read the bible….God never promised us a life without misery or trials and tribulations…he never guaranteed us a lifetime full of success and happiness based on our behaviour…. he never implied that if we’re devoted to him, we would be exempt from the pain and suffering of this world…
He promised however that our reward and salvation is kept in heaven and will be for eternity…he did say that our time here on earth is fleeting…and we should keep our focus on preparing ourselves for our spiritual inheritance…
He did promise to never leave us or forsake us and to give us perfect peace amidst our trials….
So what is the purpose of pain and suffering then, if our time here is limited and our inheritance and salvation is in eternity? why do we have to endure trials and tribulation in this “short” lifetime?
As we can see from today’s scriptures, the trials we go through in this lifetime is to build our faith, to shift our focus and attention on God and to remind us to put our hope in God and all this is to bring all glory and praise to Him…
For we know everything we go through is temporary compared to the gift and promise of Eternity. The suffering that we experience in this lifetime is nothing compared to the inheritance kept for us in heaven…and once this is revealed it results in his praise, honor and glory.
Today let’s pray that God gives us the faith and strength to endure all the trials that life brings. That through it all we may have hope and lean on him. That we may keep our focus on our spiritual inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled and unfading, kept for us in heaven.
Let’s also pray that he helps open the eyes of those who question his existence. That they may receive spiritual rebirth. That the true purpose of pain and suffering may be revealed to them and that they may be able to experience his love and glory as they lean on him through the good and bad. AMEN
Remember God loves you so much, this world is fleeting…. but one thing remains…his love never fails, it never gives up and it never runs out and nothing can separate you from his everlasting love.
