OOTD :: Mint Jeans

Hi luvs,

Having colored jeans in your wardrobe is a great alternative to regular denim jeans. It allows you to spice up your outfit and add a little color to your overall look. If you are a little color shy and strikingly bold colored jeans is just not your thing, you can opt for a pastel or lighter color, like Mint. Mint is my new favorite spring color. I like it because its calm, fresh plus you can easily pair it up with neutrals.

Mint Jeans, Cream Blazer, White Tank

I paired my mint jeans with a cream blazer and white tank. I Left the blazer open and wore pink flats to give the outfit a casual look.  The blazer’s inner lining happens to be mint. Rolling up it’s sleeves compliments the jeans. I chose to wear a beige bag which is slightly darker than the blazer, thus keeping up with the theme on the top part of the outfit.

As for accessories, I  wore pink earring to complement the flats and a turquoise necklace to compliment the jeans and the blazer’s sleeves. I think this outfit can be great for casual Fridays, a casual meet up with friends, a casual business meeting or weekend shopping.

What or who inspired you to start a YouTube Channel?

My children inspired me to start a YouTube Channel. I have two beautiful girls and I wanted them to have a record of this journey that I am taking. I also wanted to give them a record of how to care for their natural hair. By so doing, I hope to inspire others to love their hair.

Describe your Channel

My Channel, DiscoveringNatural, is mainly a natural hair channel. I share how I care for my natural hair and my girls’ natural hair. I also share different styles for transitioning and natural hair

I edit my videos with CyberLink Director and PhotoScape.

Where do you get inspiration for your videos?

I get a lot of my inspiration from talking to people and answering questions about natural hair.

What is the most frustrating thing about being a YouTube Vlogger?

I don’t have any frustrating thing about being a YouTube Vlogger.  I truly enjoy making videos.

What is the best thing about being a YouTube Vlogger?

Being able to interact with different people all over the place. I get my message across to people that I would have never met. I also love the online friendships I have developed with other Vloggers.

How do you balance time between your personal life and YouTube schedule?

I try to make videos when it is not affecting family time. I put out at most 3 videos a week, so it is not really overwhelming.

Have you met any of your viewers in real life?

Yes I have… at church. LOL.  I do hope to meet some  more during the upcoming International Natural Hair Meet up day on May 18th.

Do you have any interesting story to tell about your YouTube life and real life crossing paths?

Please mention one video that you have made that is your favorite, and why?

My favorite video is my Big Chop video.

Because that was the start of my natural journey, my “fully natural” journey.

How long have you been Natural? Describe your Hair Journey.

I have been fully natural for 6 months now. I have been relaxed since I was 13 years old. I BEGGED my dad to let me perm my hair. After what it seems like forever, he let me.  I started transitioning in November 2011, and transitioned for a year, before doing my big chop. This is the best decision I could have ever made for my hair.

What is your favorite Natural Hair Style?

Bantu Knots

What is the best thing about being Natural?

I  love that my hair is so versatile. I can wear it in SO many styles. Not boring.

What is the most frustrating thing about being Natural?

The time it takes to style my hair.

What advice do you have to those who are newly natural or are considering going natural?

Be patient and learn about your own hair. Also, make sure that if a product does not work for you, check the ingredients and make sure that there is not an ingredient that is causing the issue.

Essie Swatch Review :: Peach Daiquiri + Mint Candy Apple

Hi luvs,

Since spring is here I’ve been wanting to add some color to my nails. I was looking to get some Nail Polish in some of the spring colors. I wanted to get some nice bright colors for the spring, like coral and mint.

They had a sale at H&M on Essie Nail Laquer. (For those of you in Sweden, you can find Essie at H&M, Kicks and Åhlens)

They usually retail at 139KR = $22 and they had them for 99KR = $15. If you live in the States, you can get them for $8 at Macy’s.

I wanted to get “Cute As A Button” because I’ve heard a lot of people raving about it. But I guess someone misplaced them on the rack coz when I got home I realized I had “Peach Daiquiri” instead. (Don’t you just hate when that happens!!!) and I happened to find out while I was painting my nails. (SMH) Anyway, I’ll get that one next time.

Peach Daiquiri is a bright dark pink that is more on the fuchsia side than peach. I love it but I was looking for something more on the peachy side. But I must say its a pretty bright pink, if you are looking for a nice shade of pink for the summer, I would go for this.

The mint I went with is called Mint Candy Apple its a cute bright shade of Mint. I think it complements Peach Daiquiri quite well if you are into mixing colors. If you are looking for a light mint then you need to try some of their other shades of Mint as this one is on the darker side of Mint.

Overall, I like that these do not need a lot of coats and they dry pretty quick. However, it chips really fast. It lasted me for only about 3 days and I thought it would last for at least 4 to 5 days.

I’ve definitely been converted into a Essie fan. I think its a nice brand if you want to splurge a little and spoil yourself. I’m looking forward to trying some of their other colors.

You can see how these look by watching the video below.

Thanks for stopping by and ’till next time,

much love and stay blessed,

March Curlkit :: Product Close Ups and details

Hi luvs,

Happy International Workers’ Day.

Today I wanted to give you guys a sneak peek of what was included in March’s Curlkit.

Before we get into it let me give you guys a little info on Curlkit. (For those who aren’t familiar with it)

What is CURLKIT?

Curlkit is a natural hair subscription service, which offers 6 to 8 product samples in a box each month for the price of $20 per month plus shipping if you are international.

Being that I live in Sweden, its very hard for me to find natural hair products geared towards women of color. I know I could start experimenting with products locally to see what works for my hair, but at this point in time I find it less time consuming on my part, to simply use a service like this which is already geared to naturals. It is much easier for me to weed out the products and if I really like a product I could simply order it from their site.

You can cancel the subscription at any point and if you don’t want the commitment you can always order individual boxes or products from their sites.

Now that being said the Shipping fees is killing me, these are the current shipping rates for international subscribers.

Shipping to Canada $19.95
UK and Europe  $23.95
Puerto Rico/Hawaii/Virgin Island  $5.70

So basically my Curlkit box costs me about $44 a month and that is steep! Especially knowing that those locally pay half of that. Now I understand that this is not Curlkit’s fault and I am glad that they even ship internationally (As far as I am aware they are the only Natural Hair Subscription service that ships oversees…if any of you know any others let me know in the comments below.)

Apart from the shipping fees I am loving this service, I’ve had a chance to get my hands on a couple of products that I only hear other naturals rave about on YouTube. Also, since they do send a couple of full sized bottles, I have products to last me for quite sometime which is great!

My first curlkit box was February, so far I have received 3 boxes and I have been pleased with all of them. No regrets or complains here. In this post I will focus on showcasing product details and close ups for the March box. (I will do a post on the February and April boxes as well so stay tuned for those. Also stay tuned for product reviews.)

Ok, on to the details….
This march Curlkit celebrated their 1 year anniversary since they started their business as a natural hair subscription service. As part of the celebration Curlkit included some of their favorite products.
