2016 the year that was…2017 the year to come…

happynewyear2017Dee

WOW this year just really flew over my head, I feel like I literally blinked and the year has come to an end…it’s exciting but terrifying at the same time. Exciting at the thought of a new beginning, a new chapter, new opportunities and new adventures. Terrifying that the end of 2017 may come just as fast…

For me this year has been about spiritual growth…I’m very grateful that this year I’ve really taken the opportunity to build my relationship with God and I’ve seen the work he’s done in my life. There were so many moments where I really didn’t know how I’ll get through but God gave me the strength…he provided for me and protected me. I’m forever grateful to have this experience and know that I’ve overcome not by my own strength… but I’ve done so because of God’s grace. I’m truly nothing without him.

1 Corinthians 15:10 New King James Version (NKJV)

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

2016 for me was a year of healing, growth, faith and patience. Most things didn’t go the way I planned in many aspects, I got blindsided a few times but through it all, I had a wonderful sense of peace…peace in knowing that no matter what happens God’s got me and is working everything out for me in the background…I just need to be still, even when I can’t make sense of it all.

Isaiah 26:3New International Version (NIV)

You will keep in perfect peace
    those whose minds are steadfast,
    because they trust in you.

I’m the type of person, when something goes wrong, I immediately try to find a “fix”….I can’t stand for things to stay in somewhat of a perpetual broken state…but this year I’ve learnt that some things are not meant for US to fix…sometimes, we just need to surrender, lean on God, pray and have faith!!! He is the ultimate “fixer” and sometimes he wants everything demolished so he can build something even better….because what we tried to build was really not part of his plan anyway….and he does this so we can learn to completely trust and lean on him.

Joel 2:25 New King James Version (NKJV)

25 “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.

Who knows what 2017 holds? If anything in 2017, I’d love to go even deeper and higher in my relationship with God. I’d love to grow even more spiritually. I’d love to make God a priority in my life and seek his guidance in everything that I do. I’d love to have a more consistent and stronger prayer life. I’d love to make it a consistent and daily habit to read his word (the bible)…

I’d love to be present, cherish and appreciate each and every moment I spend with my kids. I’d love to create wonderful and beautiful memories with them. I want to laugh more and cry when I need to….I’d love to experience new things, places and opportunities….

Why Prayer and reading the Bible is IMPORTANT (Day 14) – “What Is Love? Challenge”

psalm25

Merry Christmas Everyone, I hope you and your loved ones had a peaceful and wonderful day celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ Our Saviour and our Lord.

Today is Day 14 of the “What Is Love?” Challenge where for 29 days, I’ll be sharing bible verses on Love, so we can gain a deeper understanding of the True meaning of Love according to God’s divine plan.

On Day 13 we talked about how God acts as a shield and protects us from our enemies. Today’s verses are another prayer asking God to teach us and instructs us in his ways. Today we’ll discuss why Prayer and reading the bible is so important in our spiritual life and in building our relationship with God.

Psalm 25 : 1 – 10 English Standard Version (ESV)

25 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust;
    let me not be put to shame;
    let not my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
    they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all the day long.

Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

As human beings we are born of sin, this is our nature, we are imperfect and are bound to fall in the trap of sin. After all we are all sinners and have fallen short of the Glory Of God ( Romans 3 :23)

If we want to live a life that’s pleasing to God,  and we want to build a strong relationship with him, we definitely need his help, we need to reach out to him and ask for his guidance and instruction. Because he is the only PERFECT being… he alone is QUALIFIED to be our ultimate teacher.

One way we can do this is through prayer!!! Prayer is the only link we have to God. Through prayer we can ask for his guidance and we can also receive instruction and this is why having a strong and consistent prayer life is so important.

Another way we can receive God’s instruction is through reading the bible. The bible is our manual, it’s God’s word and his instruction on how we should live. Through it we learn a lot about God’s character, his love for us, life lessons and what he wants for our spiritual life and relationship with him.

There are numerous examples in the bible of God providing us with his guidance. This is part of how God shows us that he loves us.

Since the beginning at the garden of Eden, we see God instructing Adam on how he and his wife should live and when Adam and Eve fail, of course there are consequences for their actions but God does not give up on us.

We also see God giving Moses the 10 Commandments, a set of rules on how we should live to please him and to live well with others.

And as if all this wasn’t enough God sends his one and only son Jesus Christ to teach and demonstrate to us how we should live and of course he also gifts us with the Holy Spirit who continues to guide and teach us even after the departure of Jesus Christ.

psalm25

Today, let’s focus on thanking God for his instruction and guidance. Let’s ask him to grant us a humble heart that will seek and receive his instruction. AMEN

God Bless you,

XOXO

He shields us from our enemies (Day 13 ) – “What Is Love? Challenge”

lead-me-in-the-right-path

It’s Day 13 of the “What Is Love?” Challenge where for 29 days, I’ll be sharing bible verses on Love, so we can gain a deeper understanding of the True meaning of Love according to God’s divine plan.

On Day 12, we learnt that although God’s love for us stays the same regardless of our love for him, once we acknowledge his love, in order to strengthen our relationship with him we are required to fear him, walk in his ways, love him, serve him with all of our heart and soul and keep his commandments and statutes.

Today’s verses are a prayer to God to shield us and lead us in righteousness in the midst of our battles with enemies…

Psalm 5:7-12 English Standard Version (ESV)

But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
    will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
    in the fear of you.
Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
    because of my enemies;
    make your way straight before me.

For there is no truth in their mouth;
    their inmost self is destruction;
their throat is an open grave;
    they flatter with their tongue.
10 Make them bear their guilt, O God;
    let them fall by their own counsels;
because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,
    for they have rebelled against you.

11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
    let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
    that those who love your name may exult in you.
12 For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
    you cover him with favor as with a shield.

In some of the previous posts we talked about how God commands us to love others and we even spoke about how we need to forgive our “enemies” which is really, really hard to do….

When people cause us hurt and pain, it’s easy to get caught up in bitterness, anger, resentment and a deep need for them to suffer for everything they have done to us.

I love today’s verses because it is a direct answer to this problem…it tells us exactly how we should deal with those who’ve hurt us and caused us pain.

Today’s verses are David’s prayer to the Lord, as he was dealing with his enemies…he brought his situation to the Lord and this is exactly how we are supposed to deal with it even today.

We are called to go to our loving father in prayer and ask him to lead us in righteousness, as we deal with our enemies.

We are reminded that our father HATES evildoers, he DESTROYS those that speak lies, he ABHORS the bloodthirsty and deceitful man….

A quick search on the meaning of ABHORS says it means…

to regard with disgust and hatred.

Sometimes we get so caught up in what others have done to us that we forget that we serve a POWERFUL God who is JUST and RIGHTEOUS. And this God loves us so much…if he actually ABHORS the bloodthirsty and deceitful man, would he really just stand by and let our enemies cause us pain and not avenge us?

psalm 5

We need to ask ourselves, what would we do if someone we loved so dearly was in pain? and this pain was caused by somone who actually sought to hurt our loved one maliciously? Of course we would protect our loved one and attempt to bring justice on their behalf…wouldn’t our father in heaven do so much more than we would?

This is more than enough to give us peace…

Today let’s thank God for he is a righteous and just God who delights in good and abhors evil. Let us ask him for his healing, guidance, peace, faith and shield of love as we deal with our enemies.

Peace be with you,

Stay Blessed,

XOXO,

Dee
