What’s your life’s FOUNDATION built on?

Most of the decisions we make in life, are based on our desire to seek some sort of security for our future…

we wake up every morning and go to bed with goals…

whatever phase of life we’re in, whether trying to build a great career, or putting money away for a rainy day,  or seeking commitment in our relationships…

ultimately for most of us, it all comes down to setting ourselves up for a better future…ensuring we can improve our lives on some level…but in life there are no guarantees nor are there straight paths…life has ups and downs and sometimes we’re hit by storms…

the only way we can ensure we can withstand the uncertainty that comes with life, is to have a strong foundation in which our lives are built on…

Something that’s always constant and never changes no matter what…

anything but jesus

I was having my devotional reading earlier this week and was reminded of this truth. I thought back to one of my favorite stories as a child, the three little pigs…

What happens when the “big bad wolf” comes and tries to blow your house down? is your house built on sand?, is it built with stick or straw? or is it built on bricks?

will your house stand firm? or will it collapse under the pressure?

Psalm 127 : 1 -2 NIV

Unless the Lord builds the house,
    the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
In vain you rise early
    and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

It’s only natural, that in life, storms will come, people will disappoint us, things will not go as planned…what determines what happens to us during this time, is how we weather the storm…how we handle the crisis and how we come out on the other side…

The only thing that’s constant through it all is God’s unfailing Love, he is the same yesterday, today and forever…though everything else will pass, he stays the same.

When you build your foundation in God, instead of having uncertainty and worry, he gives us a wonderful sense of peace through his unfailing love and grace, this doesn’t mean all the pain goes away or that it makes things any easier…

Instead you’re able to face the storm with confidence, knowing there is purpose in the pain and everything will workout for your good…that his plans are bigger than our limited understanding.

Romans 8:28 KJV

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

When you have God as your foundation, you can walk with your head held up high, with the knowledge that he’s fighting your battles and you only need to be still…

Exodus 14:14 NIV

14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Stay encouraged dear friends,

God bless,

Love Covers…(Day 19) “What is Love Challenge?”

So I’ve been pondering on today’s verses for a few months now and I’ve finally had that AHA moment…

Today’s verse is from Day 19 of the “What Is Love? Challenge“, where for 29 days I’m sharing bible verses on Love so we can gain a deeper understanding of the true meaning of Love according to God’s divine plan.

1 Peter 4:1-8 (NIV)

Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead,so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

The part of the verse I’ve been contemplating on is…”Love covers over a multitude of sins.” If we look at the meaning of Cover, it means to protect or shield…therefore, “Love PROTECTS OR SHIELDS over a multitude of sins.”

One of the things I pray for each day is for God to Cover me and my loved ones, during the day and the night…what I’m really asking is for God to shield and protect us…

Therefore, Love shields and protects…

Love does not condemn, or seek to expose other people’s weaknesses or faults. It certainly doesn’t delight in other’s misfortunes.

The greatest example of Love is what Jesus did…he covered us and our sins by carrying the cross and sacrificing his life. He shielded us from eternal damnation by acting as a bridge and repairing our relationship with God.

Becoming a christian or a follower of christ is not a simple feat, we have to “die” to self and deny the desires of the flesh. We are supposed to become new/renew our mind and soul and not be like our former selves.

Romans 12:2 ESV

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

The flesh is weak and therefore it’s much easier to sin, the only way to overcome the flesh is by being led by the spirit. The reason sin is the much easier way out is because…not sinning means “suffering” because we have to deny our desires, passions and especially instant gratification.

It’s much easier to satisfy these earthly desires and conform to the standards of this world, because the standard of God is so much higher, however we aren’t expected to be perfect…and God understand our struggles that’s why he gives us his grace and even a helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide us in our journey…

Although it’s easier to sin, sin comes with shame and a broken relationship with God…

That’s why we are urged to Love…God is Love, it is the essence of his spirit…therefore, if we are filled with the spirit of God we are filled with Love, we are in communion with him and there’s no place for sin.

Love is Light…in the presence of light, we can’t have darkness and therefore in the presence of God we can’t have sin.

Therefore, once again the answer to everything is LOVE…

“Above all, Love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.”

You waited…

Travis-Greene-You-Waited-Art

Today’s post, has been inspired by a song that has ministered to my soul…I discovered this song last week and it’s been on repeat…I just can’t get the words out of my mind…it has uplifted me and brought me to a deep place of worship and communion with God.

The title, is “You Waited” By Travis Greene…it’s a new single off of his new upcoming album. The song has just been released this month.

It’s a praise/worship song with the underlying message of GRATITUDE…

The singer asks…

“Where would I be? If you left me God?”

This song touched me deep in my soul and reminded me to be GRATEFUL…

GRATEFUL for God’s GRACE and unconditional LOVE…

GRATEFUL, that God patiently waits for us to come back under his wings…when we’ve lost our way…just like the prodigal son, see Luke 15:11-32

GRATEFUL, that God is always there for us…he never forsakes us or leaves us…no matter what!!! He’s always there through thick and thin…

It reminds us that no matter how far we’ve strayed or what we’re going through…

He just keeps waiting, patiently…

because, NOTHING can separate us from God’s Love for us…

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,  neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To be honest, I’ve had some really hard times these past few years…and the only explanation I have, as to how I’ve been able to keep on going is by God’s LOVE, STRENGTH, and GRACE…without him, I don’t think I’d be able to survive all that I’ve been through…

I’ve had nights and days where my heart was heavy…and I’ve felt like all the walls were closing in on me and there’s no way out or no end to my situation…but God…

God’s love carried me through and gave me hope and faith…

that as long as I’m still here, I matter to him, I have a purpose, and he loves me…unconditionally

This song is a testament to that…

Most people think, Christianity is about being “Perfect” and that Christians are judgmental, stuck up people, who sit there and point fingers at others….and think that they’re better than everybody else…

But for me, Christianity is about LOVE, MERCY, GRACE, and FATIH!!!

It’s about imperfect people, flawed people, SINNERS finding their way through God’s perfect Love.

Romans 3:23

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

I can honestly say that I’m not Perfect nor have I ever been…but that’s ok because I’m human…I’ve done things and made choices that I’m not proud of…

but God…He waited for me patiently…

You called out my name
Knew my past, covered my shame
This amazing grace
You’ve shown
So patiently

For me, Christianity is about…

laying it all down to God, bearing our soul to him and surrendering…Giving it all to him…

acknowledging, that we can’t do this thing called life on our own…

acknowledging, that we have no control…and we can only seek security in him!!!

recognizing, that at the end of the day, we are nothing without him…

That he’s all we’ve got…that even our breath comes from him!!!

so why in the world, do we think we can go through this life, without relying on the creator of everything?

So today dear friend, I just wanted to share with you, my GRATITUDE to God, because if it weren’t for him, I truly don’t know where I’d be….Thank you, Father… I love you.

God Bless,

XOXO,

Dee
