kintsugiart

This past sunday, our Pastor talked about the Kintsugi art from the Japanese culture…the concept where they take broken objects and fix them using gold…hence transforming them into a piece of valuable art. The ironic thing is, this week two friends of mine brought to my attention a video sharing the same message…Coincidence? I think not…

“In Japanbroken objects are often repaired with gold. The flaw is seen as a unique piece of the object’s history, which adds to its beauty. Consider this when you feel broken.” – Anonymous

His message was that we shouldn’t hide our flaws, imperfections or whatever we’ve gone through in life that’s broken us, but embrace these broken pieces as a badge of honor….

We should let the light of Jesus shine through the cracks of our brokenness, strengthening us, healing us and turning us into a beautiful piece of art.

Meaning, we become more valuable through our brokenness, because when Jesus mends us, he turns us into something even more precious than we once were…How beautiful is that?

“God often uses our deepest pain as the launching pad for our greatest calling.”

- Anonymous

Whenever you go through something traumatic in life, you have a choice, to either stay broken and become a victim..

OR to rise through your circumstances, learn through your mistakes and use what you went through as a launching pad to something bigger and better…

“Let your past be your springboard,

not your quick-sand”

- Steve Maraboli

God never wastes any pain, within our pain we find purpose, within our pain we gain wisdom and experience and within our pain we are empowered to become a catalyst of change and help to others…

Only God can turn a mess into a message,

a test into a testimony,

a trial into a triumph,

a victim into a victory!

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NLT)

61 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
    and prisoners will be freed.
He has sent me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,
and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
To all who mourn in Israel,
he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
    festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for his own glory.

Have you heard about the “cult of celebrity”? it’s the obsession and fascination with fame..most people would do anything to gain fame, power, money and influence…why is that? is it because we think fame will give us happiness? Is it because we think fame and money will solve all our problems?

the sad truth is most celebrities are not happy…it’s very common to hear most of these celebrities battling with depression, drug addiction, unhealthy relationships/lifestyles and untimely deaths…you would think with all the talent, fame, money and influence they have, they would be leading lives of contentment….so what gives?

When we lack a relationship with God, we’ll always try to fill up the void with things from this world…

when our cup of LOVE is empty we’ll always seek it from others…however this world can’t satisfy our thirst or fill up our souls, it can never give us that which only God can…

even after we posses the money, fame, influence and power, if we don’t have the JOY, LOVE and PEACE of God we’ll always feel empty…because it’s all meaningless compared to the eternal glory of God. All this will pass, but his LOVE is eternal…

1 John 2:15-16 (ESV)

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life —is not from the Father but is from the world.

Matthew 16:26 (ESV)

26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

1 John 2:17 (ESV)

17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

It is not human strength or power that accomplishes His will

As human beings we sometimes feel invincible, we take for granted the abilities, talents, power, strength, personalities, physical characteristics and everything that we have. We feel as though, we acquired these things ourselves.

We think we’re the boss of us and of this universe and we conveniently overlook the power of God that works through us…

We must always remember, that all that we are and all that we have, is not a product of our own doing, but a gift from an almighty God, who through his spirit gives us the power to accomplish his will…

You don’t know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice - Bob Marley

This week’s inspiration comes from a story I read in one of my daily devotionals…in the story a little girl tells her father she thinks she will never be strong enough for Jesus, her father assured her when the time comes, God will provide her with sufficient strength. Sure enough when she grew up she mustered the strength to help Jews escape Nazis during the Second World war…

strength to overcome

God's strength

I hope these words encourage you today, remember, you have a mighty God who loves you dearly…he will surely provide you with the strength you need to overcome whatever giants you face in life,

2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Philippians 2:13 (AMP)

13 For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.

Love Always,
